The European Commission on June 3 proposes to release a payment of €485 million ($545 million) for Turkey to support Syrian refugees in 2020.
The institution presented a budget amendment on June 3 suggesting "to top up support for refugees and host communities in response to the Syria crisis by a total of €585 million."
Writer, former first lady Amalia Megapanou dies at age 91
Amalia Megapanou, a writer and folk-art historian best known as the wife of the late prime minister Konstantinos Karamanlis, has died at the age of 91, it was announced on Tuesday.
Nee Kanellopoulou, Megapanou wrote more than a dozen books under the name of her second husband, prominent obstetrician Epameinondas Megapanos.

Turkey deports 12 Finnish nationals over terror links
Turkey deported 12 terrorists from Finland back to their country of origin, the Interior Ministry said on May 31.
In a statement, the ministry said the fighters were sent back as part of Ankara's ramped-up efforts to expel foreign terrorists.
Turkey continues to send back foreign terrorist fighters, it added.
