DHKP/C insurgency in Turkey

A prosecutor has demanded an aggravated life sentence for İsmail Akkol, one of the prime suspects in the 1996 assassination of Özdemir Sabancı who was arrested 20 years after the Sabancı Holding board member's killing.

Akkol stands accused of "attempting to change the constitutional order by force of arms." 

A female member of Turkish terrorist group DHKP-C, wanted in connection with a bomb attack at the US Embassy in Ankara in February 2013, has been arrested in the Netherlands, according to reports on Wednesday.

A Turkish official says a senior leftist militant, wanted by both Turkey and the United States, is believed to be in the Netherlands and Ankara is preparing to request her extradition.

The Netherlands "doesn't extradite terrorists" to Turkey, even though Ankara has demanded the return of 11 outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants and five outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) militants, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ has said. 

A Belgian court sentenced on Feb. 20 outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) militant Fehriye Erdal to 15 years in jail and deprived her of civil and political rights for 10 years in absentia for crimes committed in Turkey, including being an accomplice in the 1996 assassination of the former head of the industrial conglomerate Sabancı Holding.

Police have killed a suspected DHKP-C member who allegedly conducted rocket attacks on police and Justice and Development Party (AKP) buildings in Istanbul during an armed clash on the evening of Jan. 21, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

An outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) militant who attacked the Istanbul police headquarters and the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) headquarters late on Jan. 20 was apprehended by police in the northwestern province of Tekirdağ on Jan. 22. 

Two attacks took place in Turkey on the same day, both in Constantinople. One was against the police Headquarters while the second one was against the local offices of President Erdogan’s political party Justice and Development Party’s(AKP) on Friday.

In both attacks the assailants used LAW anti-tank rockets. It is said that two people were involved in the attack.

Rocket attacks on Jan. 20 targeted police headquarters in Istanbul and the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) local headquarters, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Two people who appeared in a viral video in which a man called for secularism in the Okmeydanı district of Istanbul were arrested on Jan. 3 on charges of "openly provoking people to hatred and enmity."
