DHKP/C insurgency in Turkey

Sixteen militants from the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) have been "neutralized" in anti-terror operations in the eastern province of Tunceli since April 2016, according to the military.

The Istanbul 17th Court of Serious Crimes has accepted an indictment regarding the death of 14-year-old Berkin Elvan, who was killed with a tear gas canister during the Gezi protests in June 2013.

The indictment was completed on Dec. 7 after nearly three years of investigation, with the prosecutor saying the police officer had displayed "probable intent" in killing the boy. 

A Belgian prosecutor on Dec. 5 sought a 30-year jail term in absentia for an outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) member being tried for crimes committed in Turkey and for being an accomplice in the 1996 assassination of the former head of Sabancı Holding, one of Turkey's top family-owned industrial conglomerates. 

Germany has detained a suspected member of the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C) in Hamburg, officials said on Dec. 3.      

One of the suspects in the 1996 assassination of Özdemir Sabancı, which remains one of the country's most notorious assassinations, pleaded not guilty in his first plea some 20 years after on Sept. 26, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Turkish prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz was commemorated on the first anniversary of his death at Istanbul's Ça?layan Courthouse, where he was shot dead after being taken hostage by members of the outlawed far-left group the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C). 

One outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) militant was killed and another fled the scene on March 30 when they attacked a police post in the eastern province of Tunceli.

Turkish police have shot dead two women who attacked a police station in Istanbul's Bayrampasa district with guns and hand grenades, Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.

Two police officers were wounded in the ensuing clashes. 

Two suspected suicide attackers, including a suspect in the killing of leading industrialist Özdemir Sabanc? in 1996, were planning a terrorist attack in the Turkish capital of Ankara, according to a police statement.
