Five drownings in 24 hours
Five people have drowned while swimming in the last 24 hours, the coast guard has said.
On Thursday evening, a 75-year-old man was removed unconscious from the sea in Vrachati, Corinthia. He was transferred to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

DYPA: Over 40,000 people vacationed in August with social tourism vouchers
A total of 40,234 social tourism vouchers for 2024-2025 issued by the Public Employment Service (DYPA) were activated in tourist accommodations across the country in August, the second month of the program.
According to the announcement, vacations can be taken until June 30, 2025.

Swiss tourist dies during day cruise in Symi
A 33-year-old Swiss tourist died during a day cruise around the eastern Aegean island of Symi on Saturday, authorities said.
The man is said to have suddenly lost consciousness as the trip was entering at its last leg, sailing between Agios Georgios Dysalonas and the port.

Pursuit between coast guard and migrant smugglers’ speedboat near Symi leaves one dead
A pursuit between a coast guard boat and a speedboat transporting migrants from Turkey to the island of Symi in the southeastern Aegean on Friday resulted in one death.
According to reports, the incident took place in the waters northwest of Symi, when a coast guard patrol boat spotted the speedboat.
