Canned margarine chests, believed to have been sent by the U.S. nearly 50 years ago as part of the Marshall Aid, have been found in the roof of a school that was heavily damaged by a recent earthquake in the eastern province of Elazığ.

Turkish Airlines (THY) is set to resume flights between 16 cities in six European countries, including Germany, the Netherlands and Austria and Turkey, on June 18, the flag carrier's senior official has announced.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on Jan. 31 visited Elazığ province and its districts that were hit by an earthquake which killed 41 people last week.

The powerful earthquake that struck eastern Turkey last week can generate losses for insurers, as some 35 percent of houses in the quake-hit Elazığ had been insured, an official has said.

Speaking to state-run Anadolu Agency, Mete Güler, the chairman of Turkish Catastrophe Insurance Pool (DASK), said that 43,000 residential houses out of 123,000 in Elazığ are currently insured.
