Croatian town's removal of Serbian Cyrillic "clear message"

There is no room for the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet in any of Croatia's 23 municipalities where Serbs constitute at least a third of the population.

The decision passed on Monday by the local administration in the municipality of Vukovar "sends a clear message - Serbs are not welcome: they best be assimilated, or move out," says Miodrag Linta.

Romanian MPs Vote Themselves Golden Retirement

The Romanian parliament on Tuesday overwhelmingly adopted a law offering special bumper pensions for lawmakers after they retire. The law was adopted with 303 votes in favour and 124 against.

For completing one term, a former senator or deputy will now take away a special pension of 1,550 lei (344 euro) per month, under the new law.

CSCI poll: Almost 70pct of respondents believe Romanians were more patriotic during communism

A sociological research conducted by the Infopolitic Study and Research Centre (CSCI) shows that 60-70 per cent of the respondents believe that Romanians were more patriotic during communism, an answer given mostly by persons over 45 years, by persons living in the rural area and by Romanian ethnics.

FAZ: Bulgarian, Romanian Benefit Receivers in Germany Up 83% in 2014

Germany has registered a surge in receivers of the Hartz-IV unemployment benefits among immigrants coming from Bulgaria and Romania in 2014, according to media reports.

Between January and December 2014, there were 83 082 receivers from Bulgaria and Romania in the country, according to official statistics of the unemployment agencies quoted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
