Aegean Airlines passenger traffic up 8 pct in April-May

Aegean Airlines grew passenger traffic on its domestic and foreign routes by 8 percent in April to May compared with last year, starting the summer season on a strong footing, Greece's largest carrier said on Tuesday.

Aegean, a member of the Star Alliance airline group, flies a young fleet of 61 aircraft, mostly Airbus A320 jets.

Aegean Air sees losses grow

Greece's largest carrier Aegean Airlines posted a net loss of 35.8 million euros for the first quarter on Tuesday, up from 21.5 million euros in the same period a year ago.

The company, a member of the Star Alliance airline group, said results were hurt by the underutilization of its fleet in winter months.

Four Turkish jets chased off after violating Greek air space

Four Turkish fighter jets flying in formation on Wednesday carried out five violations of Greek air space in the northeastern and central Aegean, the latest in a string of transgressions over recent months.

The aircraft, which were all armed, were chased off by Greek planes in line with international practices, Greek defense officials said.

Greece's Aegean Air 2016 profit drops, trims dividend

Aegean Airlines' full-year 2016 net profit fell 53 percent, hurt by a weak second quarter and an increase in value-added tax, Greece's largest carrier said on Thursday.

Aegean reported net earnings of 32.2 million euros ($34.76 million) last year versus a net profit of 68.4 million in 2015. Sales grew 4 percent to 1.02 billion euros.

Turkish jets continue to violate Greek air space

Three Turkish fighter jets violated Greek air space in the central and northeastern Aegean four times on Tuesday.

The jets, two of which were flying in formation and the third separately, entered the Athens Flight Information Region at around 11.30 a.m., flying over the islet of Panagia at an altitude of 25,000 feet.

Two of the three Turkish aircraft were armed.
