Opposition MHP head says coup trials should be 'swiftly concluded'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) head Develt Bahçeli has stressed the importance of a swift conclusion to the trials of suspects in the case into the July 2016 coup attempt, believed to have been masterminded by the movement of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen. 

Athens Mayor nixes neo-Nazi event

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis has emphatically refused to grant permission to extreme-right party Golden Dawn to stage an event at the Chorofylaki park in the suburb of Goudi.

"There is no way that Golden Dawn will be granted the park," Kaminis told a meeting of the city council Thursday.

Professor tells judges Golden Dawn violence led by ideology

A professor of constitutional law testified on Wednesday as a witness for the prosecution at the ongoing trial of Golden Dawn, saying that the far-right party's ideology informed its criminal activities.

According to Nikos Alivizatos, Golden Dawn "wanted to addict us to the daily use of violence," and said that violent incidents rose drastically after 2012 when it entered Parliament.
