Serbian Team Wins 3×3 Basketball World Championship

Serbia's men's 3×3 basketball team won the Crelan FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2022 in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday, defeating Lithuania 21:16. This was the fifth time Serbia won this competition, which has been organised seven times since 2012.

Dejan Majstorovic was named MVP of the competition. This was his fourth win with the team. They "played an amazing tournament", he said.

Slovenia heads FIBA Europe combined ranking

Ljubljana – Slovenia has climbed to the top of the FIBA Europe combined ranking for 2021, which takes into account showings by both the men’s and boys’ basketball squads, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced. This summer has been the best on record for Slovenia’s basketball with Slovenian players of both genders pushing frontiers.

Slovenian basketball team invited to Olympic qualifiers

The invitation is a consolation of sorts for the reigning European champions missing the recent FIFA World Cup in China, at which they could have a chance to qualify for Tokyo as one of the top two European teams.

This honour went to Spain and France as the top two finishing European teams at the World Cup, while another six slots for the Olympics are also already occupied.

Govt endorses country's bid to co-host EuroBasket 2021

Hosting one of the preliminary groups would cost 4.5 million euro, of which 1.8 million euro in a fee and another 700,000 euro in other fixed costs.

Slovenia would have to pay the fee and the other fixed costs of 2.5 million euro to FIBA Europe in advance. Today's green light means the money will come from the government.

AEK qualifies to FIBA Intercontinental Cup final in Brazil

AEK will bid on Sunday to become the third Greek club to win FIBA's Intercontinental Cup, after beating San Lorenzo from Argentina 86-64 in the tournament's first semifinal on Friday in Rio de Janeiro.

In Sunday's final AEK will face the winner of the second semifinal between the Austin Spurs and Flamengo.

Shooting hoops in Syntagma Square

Residents and commuters in central Athens were treated to a basketball display at the weekend outside the Syntagma metro station which was put on by children and young people taking part in the Athens 3x3 Basketball Tournament. The tournament was organized by the City of Athens Youth and Sports Organization (ONA) and endorsed by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
