Popular tourism locations embrace sports events

Sports events in Greek tourism hotspots are increasing, with the Spetsathlon 2015 taking place on Spetses this weekend (April 24-26) including swimming, cycling and running.
Next month Deskati, near Grevena, will hold a paragliding event, on May 1-3, and Lesvos will host the 1st Molyvos Bike Tour on May 24.

One migrant dies in Igoumenitsa, 164 rescued at sea
A 21-year-old Afghan migrant crawled under an Italy-bound bus in an attempt to smuggle himself out of the country, but was killed when his body was caught in the axle of the vehicle.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday at Greece?s northwestern port of Igoumenitsa.
Borajet, direct flights from Rhodes and Mykonos to Istanbul
Borajet, a Turkish-based airline, will launch three weekly direct flights from Istanbul to Rhodes and Mykonos that kick off on June 18 and plan to run through to September.
Representatives are also investigating the addition of more flights to Kos and Santorini in 2016.
Greece celebrates Earth Day with bike races on Sun.
The City of Athens and Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth are celebrating World Earth Day (April 22) with the 22nd Bicycle Run of Athens on Sunday, April 26. The race is set to start at 11 a.m. at Zappeion Hall, near the National Gardens. There are 2.7 km and 8.5 km races being organized with both starting and ending at Zappeion.
Santorini voted Europe's best holiday island

Santorini has been voted by TripAdvisor users as the best island in Europe and the fourth in the world, according to the results of poll published by the biggest international travel website.
Crete ranked third in Europe, with Zakynthos fourth.

Skouries mine employee's car found burnt after 'threats'
The vehicle of an employee working at the Skouries gold mine in Halkidiki, northern Greece, was completely destroyed in an arson attack in the area of Nea Roda on Monday.
The employee had recently appeared on Skai TV speaking in favor of the contested mining project.
Following his television appearance, the man alleged that he had received threats.
