IMF predicts modest growth, high unemployment

WASHINGTON -- Serbia's economic growth in this year and the next will be modest, while unemployment will continue to be high and inflation stable.

BELGRADE - IMF mission released on Friday that no specific fiscal consolidation measures were proposed in the talks with Serbian government officials, stressing that the IMF holds that the measures to be adopted should be socially acceptable.

BELGRADE - Serbian Progressive Party leader Aleksandar Vucic will present the programme of the new Serbian government to the party Presidency on Saturday, with the first inter-party consultations on the ministerial team to follow from Monday, the Vecernje novosti daily reported on Friday.

Republika Srpska Finance Minister Zoran Tegeltija on April 2 said the entity was still negotiating the terms of a Russian loan, which will hopefully supplant the need to go cap in hand to the IMF.

“The negotiations are being led, but not all conditions of the credit or the deadlines have been defined,” Tegeltija said.

Cyprus is making a comeback from near bankruptcy although its banks are still struggling with bad loans and political support may be waning for tough measures, an International Monetary Fund report said on Tuesday.

Greece will start receiving its next 8.3 billion euros ($11.4 billion) in bailout loans at the end of the month, eurozone finance ministers said Tuesday, citing progress after "many painful years" of reforms.

The International Monetary Fund said on Friday it had reviewed Cyprus’s economy under a bailout program and approved a loan disbursement for about $115 million.

The international lender said the disbursement brings total lending to date under the IMF’s $1.4 billion program with Cyprus to about $459 million.
