International reactions to the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen

The U.N. Security Council has backed a call by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for a new humanitarian pause to fighting in Yemen, saying peace talks should be held as soon as possible.

The 15-member council said in a unanimous statement June 2 that it was "deeply disappointed" that talks scheduled for Geneva last week were pushed back.

The United States confirmed June 2 that an American envoy has held talks in Oman with Iran-backed Yemeni rebels to convince them to attend a Geneva peace conference in mid-June.

Saudi-led coalition air strikes resumed against rebel positions in Yemen's south after a five-day ceasefire expired late May 18, despite a UN envoy's calls for an extension of the truce.

A senior Iranian commander warned the United States that a "fire might start" over an aid ship bound for Yemen May 13 after the Pentagon called for it to change course.

Saudi Arabia pledged April 18 to cover the entire $274 million in humanitarian aid sought by the UN for conflict-torn Yemen, which has also been the target of Saudi-led air strikes against Shiite rebels.
  

United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon called April 16 for an immediate halt to the fighting in Yemen, as he began the hunt for a new UN envoy who can broker a political end to the conflict.

About 150 nationals of Russia and other countries including Bulgaria have left war-torn Yemen on board a second Russian plane on Sunday, TASS reported.

The Il-62 passenger aircraft landed at Chkalovskiy Airport near Moscow early on Sunday. This was after the second evacuation flight of a Russian plane from Yemen over the past 24 hours and the seventh one over the past two weeks.

Pakistan's parliament voted on April 10 to stay out of the conflict in Yemen, rejecting Saudi demands for Islamabad to join its military coalition against Shiite Houthi rebels, while international organizations and Turkey have called for a "humanitarian cease-fire." 

The Red Cross said it flew an aircraft into Sanaa on April 10, delivering its first medical aid to Yemen's capital since a Saudi-led coalition launched air strikes against Shiite rebels.

Turkey evacuated 55 of its nationals from the Yemeni city of Aden on April 3 with a military boat amid fighting and a bombing campaign from regional Sunni powers, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu said.

The boat will take the Turkish nationals to Djibouti, where they will take a Turkish Airlines (THY) flight to return home, Çavu?o?lu wrote on his Twitter account.
