"Adoption, Memory and Cold War Greece" is the subject of a lecture that Gonda Van Steen, a professor at King's College, London, will deliver at the British School library on Wednesday, April 3. Van Steen is the Koraes Chair of Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature, and director of the Center for Hellenic Studies. The Athens lecture starts at 7 p.m.

"Yiannis Moralis: Master Teacher," on display at the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture, sheds light on the celebrated Greek artist's capacity as a teacher and on the profound influence he had not just on hundreds of artists who passed through his classroom at the Athens School of Fine Arts from 1947 until 1983, but on the Greek art scene as a whole.

The Franco-Hellenic Association has invited 18 contemporary artists from France and Greece to explore the notion of "Egalite" (Equality), as one part of a five-part series on the guiding principles of the French republic. The show runs through Saturday, February 2, and opening hours are 5 to 9 p.m. through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on the final day. Admission is free of charge.

Anarchist group claims last month's Kolonaki bomb

An anarchist group calling itself the Iconoclastic Sect has claimed responsibility in a post on a Spanish website for the explosion last month outside the church of Aghios Dionysios in the upmarket Kolonaki district of central Athens.

The post was dated last Wednesday and said that the attack was aimed not only against the Church of Greece but society as a whole.
