Legal expert Ljubo Bavcon dies
Ljubljana – Ljubo Bavcon, professor emeritus of penal law at the Ljubljana Faculty of Law, died aged 97, the newspaper Delo reported online. Bavcon is considered one of the most prominent legal experts of the second half of the 20th century, according to Delo.

Left opposes as defence committee approves military resolution
Ljubljana – The parliamentary Defence Committee approved the draft resolution on the general long-term programme for the development and equipping of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) until 2035. The resolution is strongly opposed by the Left party, which plans to propose a consultative referendum.
Movement in Ljubljana, Bled and Brdo restricted on Tuesday, Wednesday
Ljubljana – The government decided to restrict or prohibit movement in Ljubljana, the lakeside resort of Bled and around the Brdo pri Kranju conference centre on Tuesday and Wednesday, citing a high probability of severe violations of public order and peace. This comes as new mass protests have been announced and ahead of the EU-Western Balkans summit.
City of Women taking visitors through past to future
Ljubljana – The 27th City of Women, a festival of contemporary art, will focus on community art projects, celebration of women’s accomplishments and a reflection on the school system. The festival open on Saturday with a performance by Dr Xenia.
Another academic year marked by Covid-19 begins
Ljubljana/Maribor/Koper/Nova Gorica – The beginning of October marks the start of a new academic year, once more impacted by Covid-19, as in-person lectures, seminars and exams being reserved for those meeting the recovered-tested-vaccinated rule. There will be no traditional university welcome for new students either.

Average July wage slightly down to around EUR 1,950 gross
Ljubljana, 22 September – The average gross pay in Slovenia in July stood at EUR 1,941, down 0.6% nominally and 0.2% in real terms on June. Totalling EUR 1,250, the average net pay was down 0.5% in nominal terms and 0.9% in real terms, the Statistics Office said on Wednesday.
Drama Ljubljana’s new season brings mixture of old and new
Ljubljana – SNG Drama Ljubljana, the country’s leading theatre, will stage some old plays, some based on films and others it has commissioned itself, Drama’s manager Igor Samobor said as the company presented its new season in a special video it posted on its Youtube channel last evening.
Ravnikar Gallery Space defies Covid crisis with new projects
Ljubljana – Cultural manager and artist Piera Ravnikar is defying the Covid crisis, as the onset of the epidemic coincided with the closure of her Ravnikar Gallery Space in Ljubljana, to which she responded by reopening it in her own home. Now she is launching another project, a gallery called R Space, scheduled to open on Wednesday.

Ljubljana graphic arts biennial paying tribute to Iskra Delta
