Ljubljana/Frankfurt – Stress tests conducted by the European Central Bank (ECB) and Banka Slovenije have confirmed the stability of the Slovenian banking system, pointing out Slovenian banks would fare well even under unfavourable economic scenarios. Nevertheless, banks have been urged to stay cautious in the post-Covid landscape.

Ljubljana Plečnik landmarks listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage
Ljubljana – Ljubljana’s landmarks designed by architect Jože Plečnik (1872-1957), including the Triple Bridge, Congress Square and Žale Cemetery, have been included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List in line with a decision adopted by the World Heritage Committee on Wednesday.

Tourism picking up, figures up substantially in June
Ljubljana – Slovenia’s tourism is beginning to pick up with fresh statistics showing visitor numbers rose by well over 50% and nights spent at tourism accommodation facilities by almost 70% year-on-year in June.
Arrivals were up by 54.7% to over 375,000 and nights spent rose by 66.7% compared with June last year to over a million, data from the Statistics Office show.
Amendments tabled to help foreign students
Ljubljana – A group of 40 MPs led by the Left has tabled legislation revoking the requirement that foreign students must provide upfront proof of sufficient funding for their entire stay in Slovenia, which was enacted in May and has reportedly led to many students being unable to get temporary residency permits.

Slovenia’s positive net migration highest in over decade
Ljubljana – Slovenia recorded what is the highest positive net migration since 2008 last year as almost 18,400 people more moved in than out. The Statistics Office says part of the reason for the increase is administrative changes in the population register.

Covid certificate mandatory for entering Slovenia as of today
Ljubljana – Significantly tighter rules for entering Slovenia took effect today, as the colour-coded lists of countries were replaced with the requirement that passengers who wish to enter the country need to have a Covid certificate regardless of where they come from.
