Mitsotakis and Menendez in talks in Athens

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Bob Menendez, chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, have discussed Greek-American relations and developments in the wider region over lunch in Athens.

Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou and the US Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis also attended the lunch.

Mitsotakis to receive mandate on Monday morning

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou is expected to present Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the formal mandate to form a government on Monday morning after his New Democracy party's resounding victory on Sunday night.

Mitsotakis is expected at the Presidential Palace in central Athens at 11 a.m. and will be sworn in as prime minister for his second term in office at 1 p.m.

Greek PM eyes new election on June 25 after failing to win majority

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, whose party won Sunday's election albeit short of a majority, said on Monday he would not form a coalition government and hoped for a new election on June 25.

Mitsotakis: Water companies to return to public control after elections

The Athens and Thessaloniki water utility companies will return to public control after the forthcoming elections, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said.

"Water is and will remain a public good," Mitsotakis underlined, in an interview with private TV broadcaster SKAI.

In his introductory statement to his cabinet, Mitsotakis reviewed his tenure, recalling all the issues his government had to deal with - the pandemic, issues with neighbour Turkey in the Aegean, the energy crisis, the the war in Ukraine, and a series of natural disasters.

PM officially sets May 21 election date

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday officially announced the date of Greece's parliamentary elections, saying they will take place on May 21.

Speaking at a meeting of his ministers in Athens, the conservative leader said that if the first round of voting is inconclusive and a government is not formed, the second round will take place by early July at the latest.
