Driver killed, wife injured in level crossing accident
A 63-year-old motorist was killed and his 54-year-old wife seriously injured on Tuesday after their car was hit by an oncoming cargo train in the area of Akropotamos, west of Thessaloniki.
According to police, the crash occurred shortly after 12.30 p.m. when the car drove onto railway lines at a level crossing, though the exact circumstances of the incident remained unclear.

Woman arrested for selling friends' teenage daughter for sex
A 39-year-old Georgian woman who had been acting as a procurer for the 17-year-old daughter of a friend has been arrested in Thessaloniki along with the 73-year-old man who was paying for the sexual services.
According to police, the 39-year-old woman shot videos and photographs of the sexual encounters between the teenager and the elderly man, some of which were found in his home.
Police destroys Greece's biggest heroin haul
Greek authorities incinerated 2.1 tons of heroin at a secret location on Wednesday. The drug was seized during raids on a home in Filothei, northern Athens, and two warehouses in Koropi, eastern Attica, earlier this year.

Boy dies after falling from basketball hoop in Thessaloniki
A 14-year-old Thessaloniki pupil has died after falling from a basketball hoop.
The boy, whose name has not been made public, allegedly ran and launched himself toward a basketball hoop, lost his grip on the rim and fell, suffering severe head injuries.
The 14-year-old was taken to the city's Papageorgiou hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
First of several ‘smart’ bus stops inaugurated
Transport and Infrastructure Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis on Monday inaugurated the capitals first smart bus stop, featuring electronic notice boards informing passengers how long they have to wait for their rides. He said that Line 224 connecting the neighborhood of Kaisariani with the Evelpidon main court complex will be the first of 100 such stops across Athens.
