The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) has moved its successful Park Your Cinema program - which over the summer saw packed screenings on the Great Lawn - indoors. For the holiday season, the SNFCC opera hall will be showing classic family films from the 1930s, 40s and 50s, as well as vintage Walt Disney cartoons.

Gumbo Ya Ya & Shugahspank | Athens | January 5
Gumbo Ya Ya - a New Orleans swing band formed six years ago by American pianist and transplant to Greece John Higgins - has teamed up with jazzy, snazzy vocalist Shugahspank for a show at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) on Friday, January 5. Held at the Lighthouse venue, the show starts at 9 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

International Piano Festival 2017 | Athens | November 11-26
The Greek National Opera will be hosting the International Piano Festival 2017 in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Piano Festival between November 11 and 26 at the GNO's new home at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. On November 11 and 12, the Piandaemonium ensemble - 12 pianists on six pianos - will perform at the Stavros Niarchos Hall. The performance starts at 8 p.m.
Niarchos Foundation donates more than 200 mln for health services
Construction of two new hospitals will be able to get under way thanks to a donation of more than 200 million euros made by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to help the country's ailing health system.
Signing ceremony for hydrocarbon exploration west of Corfu to take place on Tuesday
The signing ceremony of the contract granting rights to the consortium of France's Total, Italy's Edison and Greece's ELPE to explore for, and exploit, hydrocarbons in plot 2 in the Ionian Sea in western Greece will take place on Tuesday at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation in southern Athens.

Nikos Nikolaidis Tribute | Athens | October 5-7
Award-winning screenwriter, director and producer Nikos Nikolaidis (1939-2007) - regarded as one of Greece's most controversial filmmakers - is the subject of a three-day tribute being organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) from Thursday, October 5, to Saturday, October 7. The tribute, which starts at 7 p.m.

Raiders of the Lost Ark | Athens | September 29
Oscar-winning film "Raiders of the Lost Ark," which first introduced Indiana Jones to the world and crowned Steven Spielberg king of Hollywood in 1981, will be shown at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on Friday, September 29, as part of the Park Your Cinema series of screenings. The admission-free screening starts at 8.30 p.m.

Downtown Athens to get two more pedestrian streets
Athens municipal authorities have announced that two more streets in the city center - Avramiotou and Karori - will be turned over to pedestrians as part of an effort to spruce up the old commercial part of the capital.
The new streets will be closed to motor traffic as of Wednesday.
