Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is on Friday scheduled to participate in the 27th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The meeting will be held via video teleconferencing and Dendias will join it from the Cypriot capital of Nicosia, which he is due to visit.

The new National Defence Strategy for 2020-2024 reiterates Romania's "commitment" to the rule of law, with the document categorizing the corruption phenomenon as a "security risk," said presidential adviser Ion Oprisor - National Security Department, in a statement sent by the Presidential Administration to AGERPRES on Thursday.

With the pact under threat, Turkey wants to see continuation of the Open Skies Treaty for global stability and security, the country's Foreign Ministry said on May 23. 

"The Open Skies Treaty, which Turkey is a party to, is one of the main pillars of Euro-Atlantic conventional security architecture," ministry spokesperson Hami Aksoy said in a written statement.

The Trump administration notified international partners on May 21 that it's pulling out of a treaty that permits 30-plus nations to conduct unarmed, observation flights over each other's territory overflights initially set up to promote trust and avert conflict between the U.S. and Russia.

The Centre for Independent Journalism, CJI, an NGO that promotes media freedom and good practices in journalism, has raised concern that provisions enacted as part of the state of emergency to combat the spread of the coronavirus in Romania could hamper journalists' ability to inform the public.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu on Monday had a meeting in Vienna with the Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Thomas Greminger, in which context he pleaded for an increased presence of the Romanian experts in leadership positions at the OSCE, informs a release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) to AGERPRES.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) decided on Dec. 18 that Turkey will take over the chairmanship of its decision-making body in January.

More than 5,700 hate crimes were reported last year in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) region, a report said on Nov. 15. 

Out of a total of 481 registered cases of digital rights violations, 115 involved threats and endangering security. There were 95 cases of insults and unfounded accusations.

The report noted there had been more arrests of late of people accused of threatening online space, but few have been sentenced while those who were received relatively mild punishments.
