S-400 missile system

Turkey on July 16 has continued to receive Russian S-400 missile defense system, as the 11th plane landed on an airbase in the capital Ankara, Turkey's Defense Ministry said.         

Turkey hopes to co-produce high-tech weaponry systems with Russia in the future, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, further defying its NATO ally the United States, which has warned the country of possible sanctions over its purchase of a Russian-made missile defense system.

The Turkish defense ministry says two more Russian cargo planes have landed at an airfield near the capital, Ankara, as Russia continues to deliver parts of its S-400 missile defense system to Turkey in defiance of US objections.

Delivery of S-400 defense missile system continued on July 15, as eighth Russian plane carrying equipment of the system landed at an airbase on the outskirts of Ankara, Turkey's Defense Ministry said on July 15.

Delivery of S-400 defense missile systems is continuing, Turkish National Defense Ministry said on July 14.

The US administration has been silent, so far, on the delivery of the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft  missile system to Turkey. The opposite is true for Congress, where there has been bipartisan condemnation and demands for sanctions.

"Delivery of S-400 Long Range Air and Missile Defense Systems resumed today. The fourth Russian plane carrying S-400 parts landed at Mürted Airport outside Ankara," the ministry said on Twitter.

First shipment of Russian S-400 missile defense system hardware to Ankara started on July 12, Turkey's National Defense Ministry said.

The first of the Russian S-400 defense systems that Ankara has purchased will be loaded on to cargo planes on Sunday and arrive in Turkey some time next week, privately-held broadcaster Haberturk reported. 

Washington has said that US sanctions would be triggered when the missile batteries arrive in NATO ally Turkey. 

Turkey's Undersecretary for Defense Industries İsmail Demir on July 4 said the delivery of Russian made S-400 missile defense systems may begin next week.
