Tokyo – Slovenia have advanced to the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics basketball tournament in a historic feat as it won 94:70 against Germany on Tuesday. This is the first time the Slovenian men’s basketball team is competing at the Games and now they are one win away from a medal.

Ljubljana – The 30th TrNOVfest festival, the successor to the Trnfest summer festival in Ljubljana’s Trnovo borough, is getting under way tonight, to feature concerts, cabaret evenings and other artistic performances throughout August.

Ljubljana – The newspaper Delo speculates about the possibility of Slovenia and Croatia reaching a deal on the border issue under the current government in Monday’s front-page commentary, finding that this could well be PM Janez Janša’s trump card in the next year’s election.

Tokyo – After securing a place in the quarter-finals of the basketball tournament at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Slovenia continued their winning strike on Sunday by beating Spain 95:87 in the third game of the tournament, in which Slovenia remains undefeated. Slovenia will face either Italy or Germany in the quarter-finals.

Kranjska Gora – Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek offered up Slovenia as a broker in geopolitical issues as he addressed an annual ceremony dedicated to Russian prisoners of war who died building the Vršič pass.

Kranjska Gora – The annual ceremony in memory of Russian POWs who perished building the Vršič pass during the First World War will be held at the Russian Chapel below Vršič mountain pass on Saturday. The first Slovenia-Russia Friendship Day will be also celebrated on the occasion.

Ljubljana – While smart countries are devoting a lot of attention, time and money to creating safe conditions in enclosed spaces ahead of autumn, especially in education, Slovenian Education Minister Simona Kustec is in Tokyo, enjoying the Olympics, Dnevnik says on Friday.

His team also visited Bosnia, seeing the tough situation on the ground and talking to migrants, listening to their points of view.

"The police and Interior Ministry are on TV every day, but these people never get a voice," the 29-year-old director states.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor received on Thursday chair of the Economic and Social Council Mitja Gorenšček to talk about reviving social dialogue. On the latter’s initiative, Pahor will host in the second half of August an informal talk with representatives of the government, employers and trade unions to look for ways to continue the dialogue.
