National Gallery receives Getty Foundation grant

Ljubljana – The National Gallery has received a Getty Foundation grant for a project presenting the life and work of artist Hinko Smrekar. Director Barbara Jaki told the STA that the EUR 31,000 grant created the opportunity “to present an important segment of artistic history in an international context”.

Pahor hosting meeting with presidents of Austria and Croatia

Ljubljana – At the invitation of President Borut Pahor, the presidents of Austria and Croatia, Alexander Van der Bellen and Zoran Milanović, will pay a working visit to Slovenia on Thursday. The main topic of this trilateral meeting will be the future of the EU and the challenges it is facing in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Covid certificate mandatory for entering Slovenia as of today

Ljubljana – Significantly tighter rules for entering Slovenia took effect today, as the colour-coded lists of countries were replaced with the requirement that passengers who wish to enter the country need to have a Covid certificate regardless of where they come from.

Appeals for vaccination as WHO regional director visits Slovenia

Ljubljana – WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge was received by President Borut Pahor and Health Minister Janez Poklukar as he arrived in Slovenia on Wednesday. In a press statement, they all stressed the importance of vaccination and warned of the rapid spread of the Delta variant in view of the resurgence of infections.

Mad Hatter’s Wardrobe by designer Hranitelj on display in Brussels

Brussels – Costume designer Alan Hranitelj’s exhibition dedicated to the wondrous and creative world of Alice in Wonderland has opened in Brussels as part of the Slovenian EU presidency. Biggest Floating Castle festival brings touch of magic

Ljubljana – Snežnik Castle will host Floating Castle, four days of music, dance, theatre and more in what is the largest festival in its nine-year history. A magical outdoor location under Mount Snežnik in south-western Slovenia will come alive with more than 120 musical groups and 400 artists from around the globe from 22 to 25 July.

Slovenian voters reject waters act in referendum

Ljubljana – Slovenian voters have overwhelmingly rejected the new waters act in a referendum on Sunday. More than 86% voted against, show near-final unofficial results. The statutory requirement that at least 20% of all voters must be against for a law to be rejected has been satisfied as well.
