Sofia's Square 500 Gallery Expands Thursday Free Admission Offer

Opening its doors to all citizens and guests of Sofia on Thursday, September 10, Square 500 is keeping to its promise that entrance will be free on the second Thursday of every month.

Bulgaria's newest national gallery, however, is now adding other cultural sites (apart from its central building next to the Vasil Levski monument) to its free-admissions day.

Bulgarian Socialist 'Dissident' MP to Run for Mayor Again

Georgi Kadiev, a lawmaker from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), has voiced his intentions to run for mayor of Bulgaria's capital Sofia.

In Parliament, Kadiev has made no secret of his plans to either be an independent candidate or, if possible to unite left-wing, green and centrist parties around his bid.

Bulgarian Archaeologists Discover Roman Coin Hoard in Downtown Sofia

Bulgarian archaeologists discovered an ancient Roman hoard consisting of 2976 silver denarii coins during excavations works at Saint Nedelya square in downtown Sofia.

The coins were found in a ceramic vessel, which bears the name of its last owner inscribed on one of its sides, Cross news agency informs.

Slovak President to Visit Bulgaria for Opening of Sofia Tech Park in November

President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska will visit Bulgaria for the opening of Sofia Tech Park, which is scheduled to take place at the end of November.

Kiska has expressed great interest towards the Sofia Tech Park project and it is expected that he will be accompanied by representatives of Slovak companies, who will take part in a business forum in Sofia.

16 000 Illegal Immigrants Detained in Bulgaria Since Start of Year

Since the beginning of the year, Bulgarian authorities have detained at immigration centres nearly 16 000 foreigners, who had illegally entered the country.

This was announced by the Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kostov, in interviews for private bTV and NOVA TV stations on Thursday.

Bulgaria Police Arrest 130 in Special Operation

A special operation in Bulgaria's capital Sofia resulted in the detention of 130 people, most of whom illegally crossed into Bulgaria, the Interior Ministry's Chief Secretary has said.

Several people were released after the Wednesday evening operation after it was confirmed they had been granted refugee status, Georgi Kostov told private national bTV station in a Thursday interview.
