Turkish Airlines makes huge Airbus order in bid for air dominance

Turkish Airlines said on Friday it has decided to purchase more than 200 Airbus aircraft — with the option for over 100 more — in the coming decade as it seeks to become the world's largest carrier.

Turkish Airlines chief executive Bilal Eksi said in a social media statement that the entire order could potentially add up to 355 aircraft.

As the Greek government is getting ready to host Turkey's president and a number of his ministers in Athens on Thursday, it looks to the immediate future of bilateral relations with a sense of reserved optimism.

Stylish new uniforms for Aegean crews

Greek carrier Aegean Airlines presented the company's new crew uniforms on Monday, based on the color blue.

The new attire for pilot, cabin and ground crew was designed by Marios Schwab in collaboration with the leading Greek brand Zeus+Dione, and is part of the airline's renewed corporate image, Aegean noted. 

Aegean offers flights to New York on Emirates

Aegean and Emirates are adding the Athens-New York (Newark) route to their codesharing flights, over a year since they launched their collaboration in August 2022.

Aegean offers its passengers the opportunity to benefit from the increased connectivity of the Emirates network to international destinations via Dubai, by offering flights between the emirate and Athens.

Aegean on course for record year

This is promising to be a year of record performance for Aegean Airlines, with the first half of 2023 expected to be profitable for the first time in the history of the carrier, Greece's biggest.

In the first quarter of 2023, Aegean improved its aircraft load factor to over 83%.

Turkish Airlines carries 39 million passengers in six months

Turkish Airlines carried a total of 38.7 million passengers in the first half of 2023, up from 30.9 percent a year earlier.

International passengers rose more than 27 percent in January-June from the same period of 2022 to 24.5 million.

The domestic passenger tally increased by 22 percent to 14.2 million, the flag carrier said in a filing with Borsa Istanbul.
