Triglav glacier ice reaches final destination in Beijing
Beijing – A sample of the Triglav glacier that has been shipped to Beijing in an awareness-raising campaign has reached its final destination in the Olympic Village, where it will now gradually turn to glacier water to highlight the perilous state of glaciers worldwide.
Insurer Triglav reports 48% higher nine-month profit
Ljubljana – Triglav Group, Slovenia’s largest insurer, saw its net profit in the first three quarters of the year increase by 48% on the same period a year ago to EUR 75.2 million as consolidated gross written premium rose by 10% to EUR 1.06 billion. The group expects to trump the initially planned annual profit target.
Luka Dončić and Mark Cuban honoured as tourism ambassadors
Ljubljana – Young Slovenian basketball ace Luka Dončić has been honoured by the Slovenian tourism community with the Crystal Triglav, awarded to those who contribute the most to Slovenia’s promotion around the world. Mark Cuban, the owner of Dončić’s NBA team Dallas Mavericks, became the ambassador of Slovenian tourism for 2021.
Innovator and sound engineer Emilija Soklič wins Badjura award
Ljubljana – The recipient of this year’s Badjura Award, given out for lifetime achievements in film since 1995, is the innovator and film sound engineer Emilija Soklič, one of the first Slovenian professional female film industry workers. She will receive the award at the opening of the 24th Slovenian Film Festival on 12 October.
Army starting three-week training with allied forces
Ljubljana – The Slovenian Armed Forces are starting two military exercises to train with members of allied forces on the ground and in the air in several parts of Slovenia until 23 September.
Training will be carried out during the day and at night in areas around the air base Cerkelje ob Krki (SE), the Poček training grounds (SW) and the mountains in the north-west.
Triglav National Park celebrating two key anniversaries
Bled – The sole national park in Slovenia is celebrating 60 years since the Valley of Triglav Lakes was declared the Triglav National Park (TNP), and 40 years since a key law was passed to protect virtually the entire Julian Alps mountain range in the country.
Aljaž Tower returns to Mt Triglav
A Slovenian Armed Forces helicopter lifted the small metal shelter, which has a diameter of 1.2 metres and stands 1.9 metres tall, from a meadow in Mojstrana late on Wednesday morning, and only minutes later it was back on the peak.
