Temperatures soar above 30C

Temperatures exceeded 30 Celsius in many parts of the country on Monday, with the highest recorded in Trikala, central Greece (32.7C), according to data drawn from the network of weather stations of the National Observatory. 

The temperature in Trikala was a seasonal record since the beginning of the local weather station's operation in 2007.

Compensation claims for livestock farmers to start on Thursday

Livestock farmers affected by last summer's wildfires and September's Storm Daniel in Thessaly, Fthiotida and Evros, will be able to claim compensation starting this week, Rural Development and Food Minister Lefteris Avgenakis said on Monday.

The application period starts on March 7 and runs until April 30, with the government having earmarked a budget of €45 million.

PM visits central Greek town hit by devastating storm

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in Karditsa shortly after 11 a.m. Friday, as he is conducting an on-site inspection of the areas in Thessaly, central Greece, that have been affected by the severe weather brought on by Storm Daniel.

Mitsotakis visited the city's stadium, where he met with people who had been evacuated from their flooded villages.
