Afghan migrants briefly occupy highway in Thessaly

150 Afghan migrants blocked the Larisa-Trikala national highway, Friday, demanding to be granted political asylum. The migrants, who were hosted at the nearby reception centre, a military facility turned hotspot near the village of Koutsochero, occupied the road demanding the opening of the northern borders in Greece so they can continue their journey to northern Europe.

Greece in white: November makes way for the first snow for the season (pics)

Temperatures took a nose dive as mountain peaks enjoyed their first snow for the season. Mount Parnassos, towering over Delphi in Northern Greece, wore its winter colors as snow flakes fell over Fterokala (1,600 m) early on Sunday morning.

At Samarina and Perivoli at Grevena, west Macedonia, temperatures dropped and 10cm-thick snow covered the region.

Driverless buses in Trikala on a trial basis (video)

Four automatic mini buses made their way to the Greek streets of Trikala, northwestern Greece. The driverless buses are on trial as part of the EU-funded CityMobil2 research project. Each bus has a seating capacity of 10-12 passengers and are currently being tested in five European cities, including the Greek one.

It was raining money over Trikala… again!

Local newspaper trikalanews.gr states that a driver heading towards Trikala Gateway, northwestern Thessaly, opened the window and started flinging 50-euro notes out of the window! The 50-euro notes blowing over the Karavoporou River almost caused a traffic jam as surprised drivers swerved their cars and braked to a halt.

Police have have redoubled their efforts to trace Spyros Dravilas, a 34-year-old being sought in connection with armed robberies involving jailed Revolutionary Struggle leader Nikos Maziotis, after an investigation pointed to Dravilas?s involvement in a heist last Thursday on a bank branch in the small town of Farkadona, near Trikala, central Greece.

Man killed in Trikala trying to cross train track

A 40-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on Monday night after being hit by a train bound for Kalambaka train at an unguarded crossing in Trikala in central Greece.

The man, identified as an Albanian national, died of multiple injuries at the Trikala general hospital shortly after being rushed to the emergency unit, its director, Giorgos Souflias, told Athens-Macedonia News Agency.

‘One-day’ milk becomes bone of contention

The launch of «one-day» milk this month at kiosks and bakeries by leading dairy company Delta and smaller local firms such as Trikki in Trikala apparently caught the rest of the market off-guard.

Rival FrieslandCampina Hellas complained to the advertising watchdog against Delta arguing its product lasts for three days.
