Hungarian Defence Minister Csaba Hende submitted his resignation on Monday as refugees continue to flock to the country.

According to a statement of the Hungarian government, Prime Minister Viktor Orban accepted the resignation and asked fellow Fidesz party member Istvan Simicsko to succeed Hende as defence minister, Daily News Hungary informs.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Sept.7 that the European Union should give financial support to Turkey and other non-member countries to help them deal with the stream of migrants and refugees trying to reach Europe. 

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Sunday said Austria and his country should close their borders.

In a statement broadcast by Austria's state television ORF, he said the two countries should state clearly they will not accept more refugees, "because otherwise several million people would arrive in Europe."

Governments must control their borders before they can decide how many asylum seekers they can take, Orban stated, according to Reuters.

Hungarian PM Viktor Orban announced on Saturday that the 175-km fence on the Hungarian-Serbian border would be completed by August 31.

The fence is meant to prevent illegal migrants from third countries crossing from Serbia to Hungary.

Hungarian PM Viktor Orban has said that "bad policy" can increase mass migrations and that for this reason, he opted for "a firm policy of border protection."

"By protecting Hungary, we are protecting the EU," he told the state radio.

Speaking during a joint news conference with Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic after a joint sitting of the two countries' governments, Orban said the wall would be built in order to prevent illegal crossings of the border.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic will take part in a joint sitting of the governments of Serbia and Hungary in Budapest on Wednesday.

As the government's media relations office said in a release, Vucic said that he will meet Hungarian President Janos Ader and Prime Minister Viktor Orban on the occasion.

Austria said on June 24 it might be forced to re-instate border controls between it and its European Union neighbor Hungary in response to Budapest refusing to take in asylum seekers sent to it from other EU states.
