US: Iranian troops in Crimea backing Russian drone strikes

The White House said Thursday that Iranian troops are "directly engaged on the ground" in Crimea supporting Russian drone attacks on Ukraine's power stations and other key infrastructure, claiming it has troubling evidence of Tehran's deepening role assisting Russia as it exacts suffering on Ukrainian civilians just as the cold weather sets in.

Another mine disabled in Black Sea

Turkish authorities have disabled a mine in the Black Sea, the Defense Ministry said on Oct. 19, in the fourth such incident since the start of the Ukraine war.

"A mine was detected off Kıyıköy... and has been secured and neutralized," the ministry tweeted.

The Marmara province of Kırklareli's Kıyıköy district is located less than 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the Bosphorus.

Ukraine claims new gains, welcomes Western air defense pledge

Ukraine said on Oct. 13 it had reclaimed more territory in the south and welcomed a Western pledge to deliver air defense systems to Kiev "as fast as we can" after days of intense Russian missile strikes.

A US-led group of around 50 countries held talks at the NATO headquarters in Brussels and vowed to deliver new anti-missile systems to Kiev.
