Moderate quakes off Crete and Zakynthos

Two undersea quakes occurred off Greek islands on Saturday, the first in the Aegean, off Crete, and the second in the Ionian Sea close to Zakynthos.

The first tremor, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, struck the seabed off the southeastern coast of Crete at 5.30 a.m., according to the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens National Observatory.

A tremor measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale was recorded just after 14:00 on Saturday, in the sea off the island of Zakynthos. According to the Athens Geodynamic Insitute, the epicentre of the quake was in the sea southwest of the island at a focal depth of 10 km. Moderate quake rattles Zakynthos

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.2 has struck off the western island of Zakynthos, but no injuries or damage have been reported.

The Athens Geodynamic Institute said the quake occurred at 1.41 a.m. on Friday in the Ionian Sea south of Zakynthos, between the island and the Strofades island cluster, at a depth of 10.7 kilometers.

Third man dead in Greece of the new coronavirus

Shortly after a second fatality from the new coronavirus was confirmed in Greece on Saturday, a third death was announced by state-run news agency ANA-MPA.

The third victim is a 67-year-old man from the island of Zakynthos.

The man, who died Saturday morning, had checked into the local hospital three days ago.

Total Greek coronavirus cases at 66, 47 on one travel group

The total cases of coronavirus in Greece have risen to 66, of which 47 are among a group that traveled to Israel and Egypt in late February, the country's National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported Saturday.

No fatalities have been reported from the disease yet. A 66-year-old man, among the travelers, is in intensive care.
