Pair face blackmail charges after victim alerts police

A 43-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were to face a prosecutor on charges of blackmail and theft on Sunday after they allegedly demanded 10,000 euros from an unidentified victim in exchange for information about crimes that had been committed against him in the past and threatened to harm him and his family if he failed to hand over the money.

The pair managed to extort 3,000 euros from the victim – a sum that was found in the woman’s possession – before the victim informed police.

Officers of the police’s internal affairs unit launched an investigation as the suspect allegedly implicated a police officer in one of the crimes but no incriminating evidence was found.
