Dambovita County Council chairman: Dracula Festival emphasizes historical truth

The Dracula Medieval Festival that is taking place in Targoviste between June 13-16 has, beside the role of attracting tourists, the role to emphasize historic truth, says the Dambovita County Council Chairman Adrian Tutuianu.

"Dracula Festival is an event through which we wish to become an important tourist attraction. We hold some of the most beautiful natural landscapes, traditions and customs that could place Dambovita County and the city of Targoviste on the map of the most visited tourist objectives in Romania. For over 300 years Targoviste, the county seat, has been the capital of the historical province of Wallachia, the place where 33 voivodes ruled from, one of them being the legendary Vlad III Tepes, who commissioned the building of the city's symbol, Chindia Tower", Tutuianu said.

According to the Dambovita County Council Chairman, participants in the festival can find out more about the history of the place.

"The Dracula Medieval festival was also thought out to further historical truth, namely that Vlad Tepes was a ruler of Wallachia, a member of the Basarab dynasty, a brilliant defender of Christianity. He is strongly connected to Targoviste, to the house of his paternal grandfather, ruler Mircea the Elder. It was here that he thought out his battle plans, he ruled here, he issued documents from here. Here in the Princely Court of Targoviste he raised the defensive tower that we call Chindia Tower today, where he planned the anti-Ottoman defense", added Tutuianu.

The Dracula Medieval Festival takes place in the Princely Court of Targoviste, an important historical objective of the country.
