Montenegro to Host McLaren F1 Anniversary Race

The McLaren Group is interested in organizing races of its Formula 1 team in Montenegro, the government in Podgorica has announced.

Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic on Thursday in Podgorica met the President of the McLaren Group F1, Ray Bellm, and discussed the possibilities of the Adriatic country hosting sports car racing events.

The McLaren Group is one of the most exclusive racing car clubs worldwide and organizes similar events in several destinations in Europe and in the Middle East.

The company, based in Woking, England, currently plans to organize a promotional race marking the 25th anniversary of McLaren F1′s unveiling at the Monaco Grand Prix back in 1992. 

That year, a team of engineers and designers came together in an attempt to build a vision of "the finest sports car the world had ever seen".

"Such an event may be an incentive to further promote investment and the tourist potential of Montenegro," Djuaknovic remarked.

This year, the Montenegrin tourism authorities have resorted to varous new ways to attract wealthier tourists.

In the summer, the national tourist organization financed the visit of several world-famous fashion bloggers who were put up in coastal cities at government expense.

The goverment also financially supported performances of well-known regional musicians and DJs, and the organization of a fashion show of the celebrated British designer Vivienne Westwood in July.
