The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) on Sunday evening rejected two notifications filed against the presidential candidacy of Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader and Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

At the end of the meeting, CCR chairman Augustin Zegrean said none of the objectors provided convincing arguments to prevent Victor Ponta from running in the presidential elections.

"There were two appeals filed by two citizens who were discontent over certain matters. Neither of them provided arguments justifying such an appeal, preventing the candidate to whom they referred from running in the elections. Such reasons are stipulated by the law and the Constitution. Therefore, the appeals have been rejected," the CCR head said.

According to the regulations in force, the appeals should be solved by the Court within two days of their registration.

Zegrean had previously said that appeals against candidates have been filed at every presidential polls, but the CCR judges rejected all appeals, according to him.
The CCR chief also said that all election-related appeals will be examined.

Victor Ponta on Wednesday evening filed his presidential candidacy to the Central Electoral Bureau, on behalf of the Electoral Alliance made up of PSD, the National Union for Romania's Progress (UNPR) and the Conservative Party (PC).AGERPRES
