Bulgaria's Parliament Opens Doors for Constitution Day

The headquarters of Bulgaria's Parliament are open to visits on Saturday morning and afternoon as part of the celebrations of the so-called Constitution Day.

Until 15:00 local time, anyone can take a look at a historic exhibition including all four constitutions used by the country since its liberation from the Ottoman Empire in 1878.

These were adopted in 1879, 1947, 1971 and 1991 respectively, the third and the fourth one having been written during Communist rule.

Photos and other documents related to the writing of the constitutions, along with belongings of Bulgaria's first Exarch (clerical ruler) Anthim I.

The birth of Anthim I, a key figure in the constitutional process of 1879, is also being celebrated on Saturday, although the precise date two centuries ago, in 1816, is not clear.
