Russian tourist found alive after 14 hours at sea

Authorities in Rethymno, Crete, on Thursday said they had found a 55-year-old Russian woman who had been swept up by strong currents off the coast of Adelianos Kambos the previous day.

The woman was spotted by a border patrol aircraft clinging to an inflatable water mattress that helped keep her afloat for some 14 hours amid high winds and choppy seas.

"Does EU plan migrant centers in Serbia? No"

In an interview with the daily Politika, Avramopoulos said that the EU has not spoken to African or Western Balkan countries about establishing migrant centers in Africa or on European soil, but outside the EU. Asked if there was a plan in the EU for such centers to be in Serbia, Avramopoulos replied, "No, not at all."

Greece's support for FYROM

I will not focus the substance of the name deal reached between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his counterpart in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) Zoran Zaev, which was sealed in the Prespes Lake region last week - with all its positive and negative aspects. 

Gov't on defensive after losses

On the defensive after seeing the coalition's majority reduced again this week, government officials on Wednesday branded an attempted attack on the office of a coalition MP as part of a scheme to destabilize the administration but were silenced when the anarchist group Rouvikonas took responsibility for the incident. 

Falling apart

The Athens metro was once considered an example to be emulated, in all respects. 

It was embraced wholeheartedly by all Greeks as a modern and efficient form of transport.  

However, this was not the case with the country's politicians who have continually failed to show it the care and respect it deserves. 

Airtickets.gr, Travelplanet24 suspend sales

Tripsta SA, the parent company of travel sites Airtickets.gr and Travelplanet24, announced on Thursday the suspension of all new ticket sales as part of a radical restructuring of the Greek-owned firm, which has also resulted in the sacking of 180 employees from Athens headquarters.

Top Greek prosecutor seeks retrial for ex-statistics chief

A Greek Supreme Court prosecutor has called for the retrial of the country's former statistics chief, convicted a year ago for alleged breach of duty in a highly politicized case.

Andreas Georgiou had appealed against the lower court's decision, which gave him a suspended two-year prison sentence. Earlier, another court had cleared him of the charges.
