Djokovic in Dubai semis, Youzhny withdraws

DUBAI - Serbia's Novak Djokovic advanced to the semifinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after his quarterfinal opponent Mikhail Youzhny of Russia withdrew from the tournament due to illness.

In Friday's semifinals, the world no. 2 will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Roger Federer of Switzerland and Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic.

Jankovic to face Serena Williams in quarterfinals

DUBAI - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic beat Czech Republic's Lucy Safarova 7-5 6-4 on Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Dubai.

The match lasted 1 hour and 42 minutes, with Jankovic coming out on top after a great struggle and a lot of ups and downs in her game.

She will now face Serena Williams from the US, who is the top seed in Dubai.

Jankovic in Doha semis

DOHA - Serbian tennis player Jelena Jankovic advanced to the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Doha, defeating Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 on Friday.

Bidding for a place in the final, Jankovic will face Angelique Kerber of Germany, who breezed past the Czech Republic's Petra Cetkovska 6-1, 6-0.

Jankovic advances to quarterfinals in Doha

DOHA - Serbian tennis player Jelena Jankovic is through to the quarterfinals at the tournament in Doha, after defeating Russia's Alisa Kleybanova 6-1, 6-2 on Thursday.

Jankovic defeated the Russian player for just one hour and 12 minutes.

On her way to the semis, she will take on the winner of the match between Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic.

Zakopalova ousts Ivanovic in Doha

DOHA - Serbia's Ana Ivanovic failed to reach the third round of the WTA singles tournament in Doha, after losing to Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in a second round match on Wednesday.

After winning the first set, Ivanovic lost her grip and the 32nd ranked Czech used the opportunity to clinch her first victory against the Serb.

Ivanovic, Jankovic through to Doha second round

DOHA - Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic is through to the second round of the WTA tournament in Doha, after her first-round opponent, Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova retired at the start of the second set.

With the Serbian player leading by 7:5, and 1-0 in the second set, Hantuchova withdrew with a right knee injury.
