Ruling thwarts hopes of tax audit windfall

Hundreds of thousands of tax audits of outstanding cases will be canceled following a decision on Tuesday of the Plenary Session of the Council of State.

According to the ruling, any audits conducted that stretch back beyond a five-year limit have been deemed unconstitutional.

Workers went on strike early on Tuesday at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Serbia factory in the town of Kragujevac.

Autonomous Trade Union leader Zoran Markovic confirmed this for Beta.

Croatian Police Accused of Continuing to Beat Refugees

German-based NGO Rigardu, which helps refugees on their way to Europe, passed reports to BIRN that allegedly show that Croatian police used violence against refugees in June.

Rigardu took statements from people who said they had witnessed the use of violence by the Croatian police, mostly on the border with Serbia, from where the refugees have been entering Croatia.

Garbage workers continue action despite new offer

Municipal garbage collectors on Tuesday rejected a proposed compromise by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras aimed at ending an 11-day protest that has left huge piles of trash on city streets, vowing to continue protest action through Wednesday as temperatures soar.
