Resistance hero Manolis Glezos dies aged 97

Veteran leftist and World War II resistance fighter Manolis Glezos died Monday at the age of 97. He died of heart failure at a central Athens hospital after being admitted on March 18. Respected across the Greek political spectrum, he was most famous for climbing the walls of the Acropolis in 1941 to take down the Nazi flag. He was sentenced to death in absentia.

Woman with Covid-19 who gave birth gets the all-clear

The first woman in Greece to give birth while being infected with the new coronavirus was discharged from an Athens hospital on Friday, after two Covid-19 tests came back negative.

The 24-year-old mother and her baby boy, who remained for two weeks in isolation in the Attikon General Hospital, are healthy and can go home, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.

SYRIZA MP Tryfonas Alexiadis, 60, was rushed to an Athens hospital on Tuesday after fainting during a meeting of his party's parliamentary group in a House chamber.

Veteran composer Mikis Theodorakis is being treated for breathing problems and heart rate irregularities (tachyarrhythmia) at the Athens Medical Centre since February 26, the hospital said in a press release Thursday.
According to the statement, he is receiving intravenous medication and his treatment is continuing.

Man dies after downtown Athens brawl

A man who is believed to be an Afghan national died at an Athens hospital on Thursday after apparently being involved in a brawl between rival migrant groups in downtown Omonia Square.

According to reports, the incident occurred during a clash between an unknown number of Pakistani and Afghan men on Menandrou Street at around 6.30 p.m.
