Iohannis: Schengen, Ukraine, Moldova, among topics of discussion in Berlin

Romania's President Klaus Iohannis said Wednesday, before leaving for a visit to Berlin, that in his conversations with German state officials he will discuss Romania's accession to the border-free Schengen Area, along with the latest developments in Ukraine and Moldova's European outlook.

Amnesty Gives Balkans Mixed Verdict on Rights

The latest report published by international campaign group Amnesty International on Wednesday said attacks on the gay community were handled inappropriately by justice systems throughout the Balkans and Roma continue to face discrimination.

The latest State of the World's Human Rights report profiled the state of human rights in 160 countries and territories in 2014.

Merkel welcomes Greek 'starting point', says 'much work ahead'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday welcomed as a "starting point" reform pledges made by Greece in return for a four-month extension to its bailout program.

"This is good news considering what was being said only weeks ago," Merkel said, adding however that "much work lies ahead" in talks between Athens and its international creditors.

EU Commission Adopts Strategy on Energy Union

The College of Commissioners adopted its strategy on the Energy Union on Wednesday, which focuses on achievement of sustainable energy union and forward-looking policy on climate change.

Vice-President responsible for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic and Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete presented the strategy.
