Turkish PM announces 'crisis centers' amid concerns over wrongful post-coup prosecutions

Crisis management centers will be set up across the country in order to combat wrongful prosecutions made as part of the investigation into the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ), Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has announced.

When the innocent suffer along with the guilty

There is a handy expression in Turkish. The chicken translation of it reads as "the wet burns together with the dry," referring to wood burning in the fireplace. It basically means "the innocent suffer along with the guilty."

It is a particularly well-known expression in Turkish because it can be applied to many examples over our 1,000-year history in this region.

NATO chief due in Ankara for first visit since coup attempt

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will pay a two-day visit to Ankara on Sept. 8 and 9 to both show the alliance's support and solidarity with Turkey following the defeated coup attempt on July 15 and to discuss developments in Syria, after the Turkish army launched an incursion into its southern neighbor to fight against jihadists.

Complaints and news stories on the apprehension of the innocent alongside the real suspects are increasing. The issue is growing into a social victimization dimension. Students, civil servants, journalists, businessmen, academics, judges and prosecutors are being detained, so much so that the prime minister feels the need to make frequent warnings.
