CHP, AKP in new row over intelligence lists of 'Gülenists'

The government and the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) are engaged in a new row after the latter's leader claimed that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was trying to protect some of its allies who had strong links to the Gülen movement, believed to be behind Turkey's July 15 coup attempt. 

Interior Ministry suspends 265 personnel from Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Command

Turkey's Interior Ministry has suspended 153 more personnel from the Gendarmerie and 112 from the Coast Guard Commandership as part of the investigation into the movement of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen, believed to be behind the July 15 military coup attempt. 

Turkish rescue association head on trial for 'insulting president' released on probation

Nasuh Mahruki, the head of the non-profit Search and Rescue Association (AKUT), has been released on probation, shortly after being referred to court with an arrest demand on Oct. 24 for allegedly "insulting" Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Over the past 14 years, one sacrosanct principle of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) was to stick to declared schedules and categorically refuse early elections. Elections were held a few months ahead of scheduled dates, and local elections were held in a shorter time, together with parliamentary elections.

CHP head defends comments on post-coup attempt victims amid gov't criticism

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has defended his criticism of injustices committed during the Turkish government's sweeping post-coup attempt measures, saying "he has spent his whole life struggling for democracy and human rights … and against the [Fethullahist Terror Organization] FETÖ."
