The death toll from torrential rains and flooding that swept through Japan's south has reached 25, the government said on July 11, as rescue teams battled through thick mud to rescue more than 100 still stranded.

Two topics have kept Turkey's agenda occupied for the past couple of days: The huge march for justice of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) that ended in Istanbul, and the G-20 summit held in Hamburg. 

Turkey wants to start construction of its planned second nuclear plant in the Black Sea province of Sinop as soon as possible and has already started working on a planned third nuclear plant, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on July 10. 

Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed co-leader of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has penned a letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the latter accused him of being a "terrorist." 

In the letter publicized by his lawyers on June 10, Demirtaş stated that with his comments, Erdoğan had "proven his influence" over the case the HDP is being tried in.

Donald Trump said it would be “so much easier” for his daughter Ivanka if he wasn’t her father at the G-20 summit.

“I’m very proud of my daughter, Ivanka,” Trump said in a speech aired on CNN, announcing the launch of a new World Bank fund to support female entrepreneurs called the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said he is planning to embark on a tour of the Arab Gulf in a bid to ease dialogue between Qatar and Saudi Arabia-led states, after the former rejected implementation of the 13-article conditions imposed by its neighbors amid rising tension.

Speaking at a meeting in Hamburg at the end of the G-20 summit on July 8, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called Selahattin Demirtaş, the jailed co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), a "terrorist."

"We don't have the authority to release terrorists from jail," Erdoğan said in a press conference, upon a reporter's question regarding "Demirtaş and Kurdish lawmakers."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on July 8 that Turkey would not ratify the Paris climate accord, speaking at the end of the G-20 summit in Germany.

"After that step taken by America, the position that we adopt is in the direction of not passing it in parliament," Erdoğan said at a press conference in Hamburg.

Turkey will not remain unresponsive to support to given to terror organizations in the region, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said. "We will definitely not remain silent and unresponsive to support and arms provided to terror organizations next to our borders and the formation of terror islets in the region," Erdoğan told a press conference at the G-20 summit in Hamburg on July 8.

World leaders reached a compromise on trade at the Group of 20 summit as officials agreed to fight protectionism while tacitly recognizing U.S. President Donald Trump’s concerns about excess steel capacity and what he says are unfair trade practices.
