Mladina deems presidential function important, Pahor bad president

Ljubljana – Commenting on the role of president of the republic in Slovenia as the presidential race in the country is accelerating, Mladina says the constitution and social commitment are the only thing that kept outgoing President Borut Pahor from causing havoc and damage with his politically biased choices during his mandates.

Pahor to be guest of honour at Sinjska Alka on Sunday

Ljubljana/Zagreb – President Borut Pahor will be the guest of honour at the traditional Sinjska Alka equestrian competition in the Croatian town of Sinj this Sunday upon invitation of his Croatian counterpart Zoran Milanović. Pahor will be the first foreign statesman in this capacity at the tournament, the president’s office has announced.

Former Ambassador Peter Toš dies

Ljubljana – Former Ambassador Peter Toš has died aged 83, the STA learned from the diplomat’s family. Toš started his career as Yugoslavian ambassador to Tanzania and was the head of the club of former Slovenian ambassadors in recent years. President Borut Pahor expressed condolences to Toš’s relatives.

Michel replies to Pahor’s letter on Bosnia’s EU candidate statues

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has received European Council President Charles Michel’s reply to his letter in which Pahor advocated giving Bosnia-Herzegovina EU candidate status without setting conditions. Pahor’s office said in Friday’s release that Michel underlined his firm commitment to the European path of Western Balkan countries.

Slovenian, Hungarian presidents open minority centre

Lendava – President Borut Pahor and his Hungarian counterpart Katalin Novak cut the ribbon at the opening of the newly renovated House of the Hungarian Community in Lendava on Friday. Novak encouraged community members to preserve their Hungarian identity, while Pahor advocated the nurturing of identity and harmony.

Greek human rights ombudsman on visit to Slovenia

Ljubljana – Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina has met Greek counterpart Andreas I. Pottakis, who heads Europe’s section at the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI), as part of hos visit to Slovenia. Pottakis has also been received by President Borut Pahor, Svetina’s office said in a press release on Wednesday.

Pahor advocates a just peace in Ukraine, Golob affirms Slovenia’s support

Ljubljana – Following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s address to the National Assembly, President Borut Pahor said that a just peace should be achieved in Ukraine. Prime Minister Robert Golob reaffirmed Slovenia’s staunch support for Ukraine as he confirmed that Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon will visit Kyiv this month.
