Joyeuse – King Charlemagne’s legendary sword
Joyeuse is the name tradition attributed to Charlemagne’s personal sword. Some legends claim Joyeuse was forged using shards of the holy Lance of Longinus, the spear that was stabbed into Jesus’ side as he hung dead on the cross. Others say the blade was smithed from the same materials as Roland’s “Durendal” and Ogier’s “Curtana”.

UNESCO's Irina Bokova Receives French High Honors
UNESCO's Director General Irina Bokova was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor.
The French order had been established by Napoleon Bonaparte on May 19 1802 and is deemed a token of chivalry.
Bokova received the award on account of her outstanding military and civil contributions.

Economist Thomas Piketty refuses France's highest honour
France's influential economist Thomas Piketty, author of the bestseller "Capital in the 21st Century", on Thursday refused to accept the country's highest award, the Legion d'honneur, to criticise the Socialist government in power.
