UNESCO-listed St Paul Church in Turkey’s south aims to draw 200,000 visitors

The St. Paul Church, St. Paul's Well and surrounding historical quarters in the southern province of Mersin's Tarsus district are among the most important faith tourism attractions in the city and draw the interest of Christians worldwide.

According to data gathered by state-run Anadolu Agency, some 53,736 domestic and foreign tourists visited the area in 2019.

Detention warrants issued for 37 FETÖ suspects

Turkish prosecutors issued detention warrants for 37 suspects over their alleged links to the FETÖ, the group behind the 2016 defeated coup attempt, state-run Anadolu Agency said on Feb. 25.

Authorities in the central Konya province issued detention warrants for the suspects, some of whom are active-duty soldiers in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

First space training center to open in northwestern Turkey

Turkey on Feb. 18 detained180 suspected members of the FETÖ, the group behind the defeated coup attempt of 2016, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Fifty of the detainees are part of a group of 71 FETÖ members who infiltrated the Justice Ministry sought by warrants in a 15-city operation ordered by prosecutors in the capital Ankara, Anadolu Agency cited sources as saying.

Man lives alone in abandoned Central Anatolian village

A Turkish man has been living alone in a remote village for a year, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 15.

İsmail Varol has been fending for himself after his father passed away one year ago, following his mother's loss. He has been living alone in Central Anatolia's Nevşehir province's Çekme Village.

Joint Turkish-German operation targets telecom fraud

Turkish and German police launched on Feb. 12 joint operations against telecom scammers illegally swindling money from elderly people in Germany, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The group of 76 scammers includes Turkish, German, Albanian, Polish and Brazilian nationals, Anadolu Agency cited anonymous judicial sources as saying.
