Ancient wreckages discovered on southern coasts in Mersin
Underwater research on the coast of the southern province of Mersin have discovered 18 shipwrecks on a coastline of 100 kilometers. The wreckages date back between 1,000 and 2,700 years.
Trucker nabbed smuggling antiquities from Patra port
A 48-year-old truck driver was arrested on Wednesday at Patra port in western Greece after being found in possession of two illegally obtained ancient amphorae just before he was about embark on a ship heading to Italy.
Port authorities found the amphorae concealed in an electrical appliance package and said they were conducting a wider investigation.
Fishermen find ancient amphorae in waters near Limnos
The fishing boat “Panagia M” on Thursday found 21 ancient amphorae while fishing in waters northwest of Mourtzouflos cape on the Greek island of Limnos.
The finds were of various sizes, ranging in height from 15 to 80 cm. The fishing boat’s captain handed the amphorae over to the Myrina harbour authority, where the fishing boat is registered.
