Despite tax measures, short-term rentals proliferate in Athens

Changes in the tax framework for the short-term rental market have not deterred property owners, as the number of units in the center of Athens is constantly rising.

According to AirDNA, 18.5% more properties operated as short-term rental accommodation in the center of Athens in the year's first quarter, reaching 12,762, even though these months show the lowest demand.

Technical Chamber takes on mayors over building heights

The conflict over building heights in Athens took on a new twist on Friday with the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) sending an out-of-court notice threatening lawsuits against the mayors of Alimos and Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, who have imposed a suspension of the issuance of construction permits that make use of bonuses included in the building regulation. 

Opposition to building heights bonus growing

Kifissia in northern Athens is the latest municipality to join the front against a bonus included in the building regulation which enables the construction of higher buildings.

In a unanimous decision on Thursday, Kifissia's municipal council requested the suspension of the issuance of new building permits making use of the bonuses.

Monument to two great philhellenes used as coffee table

Nine years after the vandalism of the monument dedicated to 19th century French philhellenes General Charles Nicolas Fabvier and Francois Robert, who fought valiantly in the struggle for Greek independence, all that is left is its base, which is sometimes used as a coffee table for passers-by on the Dionysiou Areopagitou pedestrian road ringing the Acropolis in Athens.
