Former Romanian Mayor Jailed For Land Swindle

The Court of Appeal in Bucharest on Friday jailed Cristian Poteras, the former mayor of the city's District 6, for eight years without parole.

Poteras was found guilty of abuse of office in a case related to illegal real estate transactions in the capital involving land seized by Romania's former Communist regime.

Czech Theme at This Year's Bucharest Book Fair

The tenth Bookfest, the most important book fair in Romania, opened on Thursday and will stay open until May 24.

Under the sloga, "Czech Republic ? Republic of Literature," this year's fair will have a Czech flavour with a series of events promoting Central European literature in Romania. Five important contemporary Czech writers will present their books in Bucharest.

Iohannis invites Bucharesters to visit Cotroceni National Museum and all Romanians to attend Night of Museums

President Klaus Iohannis has launched, on Saturday, a call to all Romanians to attend the Night of Museums event as a way to rediscover the national patrimony and has addressed to Bucharesters especially the invitation to visit the Cotroceni National Museum on the grounds of the Cotroceni Palace, the seat of the presidency.

30 museums and 20 cultural organizations open for Night of Museums in Bucharest

Nearly 30 museums, among which, as a first, the National Bank of Romania Museum, and 20 cultural organizations will be open on the Night of Museums 2015 in Bucharest, on Saturday night, ready to offer visitors a diverse programme of events that includes exhibitions, children's workshops, concerts, film projections, as well as ballet and pantomime shows.

EUROPAfest 2015 to kick off with double Opening Concert events, in Bucharest and Sibiu

This year's edition of the EUROPAfest will kick off, as a first, with two opening concerts to take place in the same evening in Bucharest, where Finnish band Turn On will perform, and in Sibiu, where Japanese piano player Momoka Masuda will take to the stage.

European poets, musicians to convene in Bucharest, Wed. through Sun.

Poets, musicians and representatives of some of Europe's most prestigious poetry houses will convene Wednesday through Sunday in Bucharest for the Bucharest International Poetry Fair, the National Trade Fair of Poetry Books and the Poetry and Jazz Marathon, organised by the National Museum of Romanian Literature.

US official: Romania became a leader in information technology; Romanian, the second language spoken in Microsoft offices

Romania has already proved that it is a leader in information technology and it is no longer a secret that Romania is the second language spoken in the Microsoft offices around the world, Bruce Andrews, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce said at the Regional Cyber Security Summit taking place at the Parliament Palace in Bucharest.
