Amazon.com Inc has launched an international shopping feature that will enable customers across the world to shop more than 45 million items that can be shipped to their country from the United States.

The rapid and uncontrolled growth in shopping malls in Turkey over the past few years has severely hit merchants and tradesmen, the head of a leading confederation has said.

The winter sales began Monday, with thousands of shoppers taking to Ermou Street, central Athens's main commercial strip, in search of bargains. The sales run through February 28. Retailers are obliged by law to display items' presale prices alongside their sale prices. Overcrowded shopping malls, promising attractive rates, and huge shopping bags are an increasingly common sight in recent days. And the peak in shopping will be this weekend. An average of 235 leva will be spent online for Christmas shopping this year by Bulgarian Internet users. That's 4 percent more than a year earlier, according to a study by Pazaruvaj.com.

Youths in Turkey typically prefer to shop in malls, while people above the age of 50 tend to prefer shopping from small local business owners, according to research conducted by the Customs and Trade Ministry, daily Habertürk reported on April 5. 

Turkey's consumer confidence index fell in December from the previous month, according to a Turkish Statistical Institute report released on Dec. 21.

The index slipped from 68.93 points in November to 63.38 points in December, down 5.55 points or 8 percent, the report said.     

The economic climate in Greece has deteriorated in November after 3 consecutive months of positive data, according to the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) index.
